Prof. Dr. Petar Atanasov

Prof. Dr. Petar Atanasov worked as a journalist at Macedonian Television from 1990 to 1994, initially in the News Program and later in the Foreign Policy Editorial Board. From 1994 to 2001, he worked at the Ministry of Defense as an advisor for public relations and spokesperson for the minister, and later as an editor in the publishing activities of the Ministry.

At the end of 2001, he joined the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research in Skopje, as a Research Assistant, having completed postgraduate studies in sociology of ethnic groups at the Faculty of Philosophy. In 2011, he was promoted to Full Professor in Sociology and Communications. He has taught several courses: Sociology, Social Change, Multiculturalism, Globalization, Communications, and Change Management. Since 2011, he has been teaching Research Methodology and designing scientific projects for several groups of postgraduate students at the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research. His main areas of writing focus on socio-economic development, education, cultural and social exclusion, human development, multiculturalism, identity, ethnic conflicts, security, and post-conflict rehabilitation. He participates in various scientific research projects in the fields of political culture, democratization, social inclusiveness, discrimination and prejudice, civil society, segregation and education, decentralization and local government, corruption, and interethnic relations. He is the leader of the doctoral program in Sociology of Organization.

From 2004 to 2006, he taught Multiculturalism in the postgraduate studies on Human Rights at the University of Sarajevo in collaboration with the University of Bologna, a project funded by the European Union. From 2008 to 2010, he was a visiting professor at the American College University in Skopje. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Political Behavior and Political Analysis from Bucharest on Southeast Europe.
